mug cozies

Ever since I learned to crochet (which was just about a month or so ago) I've wanted to make mug cozies. They're so cute and warm and pretty. I whipped up these 2 mug cozies for my cousin and my brother's girl friend for Christmas. They were a hit.

I originally got the idea from this post...but I ended up doing my own thing (I don't follow patterns very well). I added  a loop at the top & the bottom that looped around the button to secure the cozy to the mug.

Here's a small breakdown of how to make these:

Chain enough stitches to wrap around the base of your mug (in my case, 30). Join into first chain to form a loop. CH 2.

In my case, I didn't have much room below my handle so I moved onto "the next step". If you have some space, DC in each ST until you reach the bottom of your handle.

"The next step": DC in all but your last 4 stitches (in my case, 26 DC). This will leave a small space for your handle to be. CH 20. Slip stitch into the base of your first chain, turn. You just formed your first loop!

DC back and forth (26 ST) until you reach the top of your mug. CH 20 to form another loop, slip stitch into the base of your first chain. This time, SC around your entire cozy to finish it off.

Sew on a cute little button and have a cup of tea :)

Mug cozies are the perfect way to spruce up simple, Walmart mugs into personalized, pretty mugs.

  20. Love your idea and used it to make one cozy with just one loop under the handle but wondered if I could make the loop wider. So after I made the chain I decided to do an hdc in each loop of the chain going back towards the cozy and when I got to the end I turned it and did the same up the other side towards the end. When I got to the end I used a slip st to join the 2 end stitches together then connected it to the cozy. I didn't have any buttons so I looked online for a tutorial on how to crochet a button and found this one http://blog.lionbrand.com/2012/02/07/how-to-crochet-a-button/
